A Funny thing happened at the Post Office

Hey all,

It is getting late here and I should go to bed, but I had to share a funny story!

Hubby and I got one of those brightly colored notices from the Post Office saying that we had a package to pick up because our box was "full". Well, we have a very small mailbox at the apartment complex where we live, so it wouldn't take much to fill it up. We figured we had an over-sized package. We ran some errands and I stayed in the car while Hubby wen into the Post Office.

I was relaxing listening to the car radio when I saw Hubby come out of the Post Office and he was carrying a postal carrier's type large plastic mail box! We both looked at each other and cracked up. It was full to the top with packages of all shapes and sizes. I knew without opening them that they were all items I was expecting from Etsy shops!

One of my favorite movies is The First Wives Club with Goldie Hawn, Bette Midler and Diane Keaton. In it, Goldie's character Elise's friends are trying to convince her that she has a drinking problem. She tells them that she doesn't have a problem. Bette's character (Brenda) replies, "Let's examine the evidence. Look! all bottles and gallon jugs!" Elise says, "I had guests!" and Brenda replies, "Who? Guns N Roses?".

I am often in denial about my overspending and shopaholic tendancies, but it is very sobering to see a postal box full to the brim with purchases and to know that despite the justifications (Christmas shopping, buying supplies for my shop, needing the nicely scented soap to stay clean...thinking that one more pair of earrings won't hurt anything, etc.), most of the items were purchased on a whim and were not really needed! If I were in Elise's shoes, spouting the aforementioned justifications for my actions, Brenda would probably tell me, "Who were you Christmas shopping for, the entire United States populace?"

If my hubby had been spending all our money on gadgets or something, I would have gone ballistic at him. It is often easier to tell other people what to do than to show yourself the tough love. Mom called tonight and I told her how I was feeling. She told me not to be so hard on myself, but I feel that sometimes we have to be as firm with ourselves as we would with our peers. We have to occasionally remind ourselves to take all things in moderation or we will lose the best of ourselves to our worst vices. I am certainly going to try to do so after this!

Darkness will never last too long when you laugh in it's face

Hi all,

My title is part of a lyric from the song, "Only makes me laugh" by Oingo Boingo. It just seemed so fitting.

Lately, it has been so difficult to avoid living in the dark side of my experiences. I have been dealing the best I can with being injured, broke, off work and most recently taking care of a sick Hubby. Bills pile up and I spend too much time cooped up inside worried about how they will get paid. In addition, I found out I am scheduled for Jury Duty later this month!

Come to the dark side...

Yesterday, Hubby and I went shopping for groceries at Costco with generous help from a family member and then we had to somehow bring them up to our third floor apartment. What followed would have been hilarious if it weren't so disappointing! Hubby had one end of the heavy grocery box and I was holding the other all the way up the stairs. When we reached the top and had just started down the hallway, the handhold Hubby had ripped, the box dropped hard to the floor and one of the 2 milk jugs burst open! What a nightmare it was to clean everything up and get the groceries inside. Not as bad as the time a diet Pepsi can hit the floor in the kitchen and exploded across the white walls in practically all the rooms of our apartment though.

Come to the dark side....

So, in an effort to cheer myself up, I have decided to focus on the positives rather than the negatives.

Yesterday's positive was that I made some sales, had a lot of fun and even won a prize in IrihanaArts 's Back to school Raffle BNR on Etsy.

Today, Hubby and I worked as a team to scrape together the money needed for some small errands. We budgeted well and got what we needed by being a little resourceful. =)

Everyone I know if struggling with something right now and it is so hard to stay positive, but if we keep in mind that we're all in it together, we can pull through.

Come to the dark side....

Nooooooooo, I will not!

My plans for the setting the raffle details got delayed today as I had so many packages to prepare for mailing out tomorrow, but hopefully I will get the details ironed out sooner rather than later and post them here!

Goodnight,

Sabrina

*Hubby is getting better gradually, it has become primarily a chest cold
*I am off still off work (until further notice) due to complications from the ankle I sprained in May and the specialist has requested an MRI to be done.
*I am searching for the positives-Looking forward to attending a bridal shower on Wed with my co-workers

Favorites Status:

*MOVIES- Hubby made me watch the first part of Hoodwinked 2 and now he must pay! The original was really funny, the sequel might appeal to kids, but was a huge letdown.

*MUSIC- Guster is the great equalizer! It is probably the only band Hubby and I can agree on anytime anywhere (especially during music wars in the car)
*BOOKS- Almost finished reading "Calling on Dragons", the third book in the Enchanted Forest Chronicles series, by, Patricia C. Wrede and looking forward to "Pirate King", by, Laurie R. King.
*FOOD-Grilled Chicken Tacos...mmmm...and Reese's Peanut Butter cups for dessert!

Creative Status:

*Creatively finding money where there wasn't any before. Lol. I returned a watercolor paper pad to the craft store since I hadn't found the time to use it yet ($21 there). Then Hubby and I took our change jar in to the grocery store and got almost $10 back from the Coinstar machine.

New items for sale and a possible raffle

This gray weather makes me feel so sleepy and lethargic. It also doesn't help that I have had insomnia lately due to being off work and therefore off-scheduled routines.

However, I have been a busy bee creating new jewelry, cards and magnets to sell in my Etsy shops. Now I just need to take the pictures and list them!

As a kickoff for this blog, I have decided to host a raffle. The planning is still in the works for it, but the idea is that anyone who makes a purchase from either or my Etsy shops within the next week will be entered into the raffle. The raffle prize will be a large box of brand new arts and craft supplies! Pictures and more details to come in the next blog post!

Stay tuned!
